'Brake' Orig. as seedling selection in Rocky Mount, NC, by W. H. Brake. Grown from seed from "Williamson tree", Raleigh, NC, planted in 1910. Plant patent 47 issued Nov. 29, 1932. Intro. in 1934. Nut: elliptic with obtuse apex and obtuse to rounded base; round in cross section; 55 nuts/lb, 60% kernel; kernels golden in color, with wide dorsal grooves, deep basal cleft and ventral groove. Protandrous. Extremely thin shell. Very susceptible to scab.
