'Dependable' Orig. by controlled cross ('Jewett' X 'Success') made by C. Forkert, Ocean Springs, Jackson County, MS in early 1900's. Introduced prior to 1914. Nut: oblong, with obtuse apex and base; round in cross section; 50 nuts/lb, 51% kernel; Protogynous. Good resistance to scab at Elgin, TX, while 'Desirable' is very susceptible. 'Dependable' has bb genotype for phosphoglucose isomerase, while 'Desirable' has bc.
