'Halbert' Native selection discovered in 1886
by H. A. Halbert in a grove near Coleman, Coleman County, TX.
Introduced by Halbert in 1901. Nut: oval elliptic with obtuse
apex and rounded base; 60 nuts/lb, 60% kernel; kernels golden
in color, with narrow dorsal grooves and a deep basal cleft. Protandrous.
Precocious and prolific. Trees are finely branched and slow growing
due to the early production. Very susceptible to scab. Female
parent of 'Wichita'.
