'Stark Surecrop' Orig. as chance seedling in Calhoun County, IL by W. T. Osterman, Nebo, IL. Discovered in 1959. Introd. in 1970. Plant patent 3158 issued May 9, 1972; assigned to Stark Bros. Nurseries & Orchards Co., Louisiana, MO. Nut: oval elliptic with acute apex and rounded base; nuts often assymetric; round in cross section; shell with ridges; kernels with flared dorsal grooves, deep secondary dorsal grooves. Ripens mid Oct in west central IL. Tree large, vigorous, hardy to -18F, productive.
