'Bests Early' (photo) A native selection from the Mississippi River valley orig. in Eldred, Greene County, IL by Richard B. Best (deceased, 1971). Introd. in 1978 by R. D. Campbell. Best had 15,000 grafted trees on 175 A, but all trees were lost in 1993 flood. Nut: oblong with acute apex and base: round in cross section; few markings on shell; 203 nuts per lb; 39% kernel. Weak crotches. Early harvest. (See NNGA 82:94-95, 1991; NNGA 69:55-59 1978).
