'Coy' Originated in Cherokee County, KS. Discovered about 1928 by Charles Stevens of Columbus KS. Introduced commercially in 1939. Parentage unknown. Nut with thin shell; quality excellent; high oil content; size small. Tree; regular producer, comes into bearing late (see list 11, ASHS 68:611-631, 1956). Thompson and Young, 1985: 1939 II Native Stevens, C. Kansas (Cherokee) Columbus. 88 nuts/lb, 57% kernel, Thin shell. E. mat.
